While we were on our vision trip in November, we learned a lot of fascinating information about Ireland. Here are a few nuggets we decided to pass on for your reading pleasure.
- The population of sheep outnumbers the population of people.
- Irish people are very locally minded in the best way. They are very proud of Irish made products. This means that there is less supply, more demand, and higher cost of living as a result.
- Ireland has large technology and agriculture sectors. There are a lot of American tech companies(Google, Apple etc,) that have their European headquarters there because of tax laws and because there is no communication barrier.
- A shopping cart is known as a "trolley".
- A pacifier(binky... whatever you call it) is known as a "dummy" or a "doty". Hilarious.
- A diaper is known as a "napkin". Megan asked for a napkin while eating lunch and got a very strange look...
- A stroller is known as a "pram".
- The trunk of a car is known as the "boot".
- The hood of a car is known as a "bonnet".
- Accents in Ireland are very different from each other. For example, people from Dublin are known very easily for their dubliner accent.
